SBS 6 closes disaster week with bad numbers for Richard Groenendijk

SBS 6 has slipped hard in a week. This first week without Today Inside was a drama and Richard Groenendijk adds to that with his poor viewing figures.

Never before has SBS 6’s prime-time programming been as consistently successful as it has been in recent months. Thanks to Today Inside, about 700 to 800,000 viewers tuned in to the channel every day at half past nine. Now that John de Mol has let the men of VI down hard, he has to make do with Meiland repeats that score 250,000 viewers.

Drama figures

RTL Boulevard reporter Joost Maiburg has listed the market shares of SBS 6 with and without Today Inside. He sees a dramatic drop in viewing figures from Monday to Thursday this week compared to last week. “Average over these four days dropped from 12.2 to 9.6 percent,” he tweets

And if it’s all not bad enough for SBS 6, the new Richard Groenendijk show Think Inside The Box started last night at half past eight with a dramatically poor 292 thousand viewers (6% market share). The most painful? The poorly viewed Meiland repeat attracted two thousand viewers more.

SBS is falling apart

It is obvious: SBS 6 is half falling apart. Fons van Westerloo, the founder of the channel, wonders whether RTL is still interested in a merger. “The viewing figures of SBS 6 are downright weak and the publicity around Talpa is continuously negative with the riots around The Voice, Johnny de Mol and Today inside,” he writes in De Telegraaf.

RTL 4 did a lot better yesterday with De Verraders, which was watched by almost 1.1 million people (22%). Beau subsequently had 640 thousand (16%) left. The talk show has had a mediocre first week and that is probably caused by the very mediocre guest list and boring topics.

Bed and Breakfast wins

NPO 1 was the prime time winner with Bed and Breakfast (1.4 million and 28%) and Tweede Hans (1.3 million and 29%). After that, NPO 2 was most popular thanks to the 1.1 million viewers (21%) for Twee voor Twaalf.

Aarjen Lubach made the most watched talk show of the evening with 1.2 million viewers (30%), followed by Op1 (766 thousand and 34%). This is followed by Beau, Khalid and Sophie (460 thousand) and HLF8 (211 thousand).

Viewing figures

Other programs that did not make the top 15 include Shownieuws (571 thousand), De Geknipte Gast (458 thousand) and Nieuwsuur (456 thousand).
