Saudi Arabia will organize the 2029 Asian Winter Sports Championships

Saudi Arabia plans to make the winter sports sanctuary part of its giant project.

Saudi Arabia will organize the 2029 Asian Winter Sports Championships. The Asian Olympic Committee confirmed the decision at its meeting in Cambodia.

The Middle East is not the most suitable ground for winter sports, but Saudi Arabia plans to tackle the problem with money. The host of the 2029 Games plans to build a multi-sport winter sports center as part of its 500 billion futuristic mega project.

The city being built in the middle of the desert is supposed to be a unified whole, more than 170 kilometers long and half a kilometer high. The mega project is supposed to be completely carbon neutral and run on renewable energy. For example, it would produce all the hydrogen it needs by itself. Up to nine million people are supposed to live in the city.

The project is not supposed to be completed until 50 years from now, but the first residents are expected to be able to move into the city as early as 2030. The winter sports competitions would therefore be held in an unfinished city.

The acquisition of the Winter Sports Games is the latest addition to Saudi Arabia’s project to acquire major sporting events. The state aims to raise and polish its reputation with the help of sports.
