And suddenly it happened very quickly. Former professional Sascha Mölders was actually on the way to the stadium, but then he went to the hospital.

Ex-Bundesliga professional Sascha Mölders had to undergo emergency surgery on Saturday. The former striker was actually on the way to Großaspach, where he was supposed to appear as a guest at Magentasport in the third division game between VfB Stuttgart II and Rot-Weiss Essen. But nothing came of it.

The 41-year-old himself wrote on Instagram: “I was just on the way to Großaspach for the RWE game as a Magentasport guest… Suddenly I was lying on the operating table and had to have my appendix taken out.”

According to his own statement, he even watched the regional league in the operating room. When he woke up, his first question was how Essen played. Mölders, the in Essen was born and also played for RWE during his career, but then he will have received a bitter answer because his heart club had lost 1:6 against the second representative of VfB.

The important step towards advancement was not achieved. He could hardly believe it, he wrote, looking at the result. At the same time, he congratulated Osnabrück on being promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga and SG Sonnenhof Großaspach on returning to the 3rd league after six years.

Mölders himself also played for Großaspach during his career, which is probably why the congratulations also went to the Swabians. However, Mölders played much longer in the Bundesliga for FC Augsburg (2011 to 2016), and he also led TSV 1860 Munich from the Regionalliga to the 3rd league (2016 to 2021). In the 2020/21 season, at the age of 36, he became the oldest top scorer in the 3rd division since its founding with 22 goals.
