Leandro Santoro left second. You might think that it was a defeat taking into account the expectation that there was with its candidacy, but it was not so. In a city where Peronism is usually relegated, the result allowed him to keep something concrete: a relevant place within the Peronist ecosystem, having radical origin.
In the previous days there was expectation for its result because the right center reached the election with several competitive figures: the pineses, Larreta, Marra. That dispersion left open a possibility for Santoro, which came with a simple message, a careful campaign and a list without heavy names. There were no photos with other leaders, even with those of their own space. The idea was to show it alone. As a candidate and with a clear message: point against a “cruel” national government.
The result was measured, but solid. Peronism added two new benches in the legislature and won in six communes. And although Adorni was first by far, the territorial presence of Peronism grew.
Santoro’s post electoral speech marked the tone. I point with the end of the era in the city. He talked about installing an alternative model to which he ruled the last twenty years and raised an opposition based on public policies. There were no attacks, either self -criticism. The focus was to show that there is another way of doing politics without giving up ideas.
The result orders part of the map of Peronism in the city. After years of candidacies without continuity, Santoro managed to install a profile, gain visibility and build territoriality. It is not less in a historically adverse district.
It also leaves an armed structure for what is coming. In the surroundings of Santoro, a campaign was made with his own team, led by Juan Manuel Olmos, the man who negotiated with Cristina Kirchner the local electoral assembly.
Thepennate was third. And although there was expectation for greater growth, his campaign failed to position himself as an alternative to the national government, nor against Santoro. That was another tactical advantage: while the PRO fights with freedom, Santoro managed to sneak into each other.
