The first evening of Sanremo 2026 lit up under the sign of great show and talentwith a series of songs that showed the talent and fragility of the competitors in the competition, and a Carlo Conti now at ease in the role of host. But, like any self-respecting Festival, perfection is boring, and to give a little sparkle to the Ariston liturgy there have been some gaffes and the lightheartedness of Laura Pausini. The co-host, without filters, strung together a series of spontaneous outings which made purists jump and social media go crazy, transforming it into a concentrate of true sympathy and a few flaws which made the debut decidedly less institutional than expected.

Between a joke in Spanish and the unlikely nickname “Carlos Cuentas” saddled with Conti, Laura managed to stumble upon the classic of classics: the involuntary double meaning. Fumbling with the technical equipment and visibly confused by the changes in positions, he exclaimed a candid: “First you put it here for me, now I have it in my hand“. A second later, realizing theambiguity and after having blanched for the cameras, he tried to make up for it with an embarrassed greeting to his mother at home: “I’ve been good so far. Mom, everything’s ok, that’s how it went“. In the meantime, as a gag, Carlo Conti “runs away” from the stage. Evidently not yet satisfied, at the end of the evening Laura decided to venture into the avenue of Sanremo memories quoting the historian “little butterfly” by Belen Rodriguez. Thanks to the bow ties (the “bow ties”, in fact) of Carlo Conti and the guest Can Yaman, Pausini felt the urgent need to specify not be equipped with the same “accessory” as the Argentine showgirlalso mimicking the positioning on the leg to refresh the memory of a visibly struggling conductor. A moment – finally – off the script that ended with his very honest “I don’t know why I said that“, perfect summary of an evening in which Laura decided that protocol is sometimes just a vague suggestion.
