Sandhausen borrows Papela from Mainz

Second division soccer team SV Sandhausen has once again added personnel in the transfer final sprint.

As the Kurpfälzer announced, midfielder Merveille Papela is coming on loan from FSV Mainz 05 for a year. There is no purchase option. The 21-year-old had previously extended his contract with the Bundesliga club by a year until summer 2024.

“It is important for Merveille and his development that he gets the playing time he needs to take the next step,” said FSV sporting director Martin Schmidt: “We are convinced that he will play an important role in Sandhausen, will come back to us even stronger and become an important player for Mainz 05 in the future.”

All in all, Papela has made six brief appearances in the Bundesliga so far, but coach Bo Svensson has not yet taken him into account this season. For Sandhausen, the former German U20 international is the eighth new signing this summer.
