San Francisco 49ers: Diagnosis for running back Christian McCaffrey has been confirmed

Breathe a sigh of relief at the San Francisco 49ers! According to a media report, running back Christian McCaffrey may not miss any playing time in the NFL after his injury last Sunday.

As Adam Schefter of “ESPN” reported on Tuesday, an MRI on Monday showed that the injury to McCaffrey’s obliques or ribs was not serious. This means he should even have a good chance of playing again next Monday in the game against the Minnesota Vikings.

McCaffrey left the game on Sunday at the Cleveland Browns (17:19) in the third quarter before he later returned to the field for a play, but then went to the sideline and finally into the locker room and did not return. The Niners ultimately suffered their first loss of the season after a missed field goal shortly before the end by rookie Jake Moody and are now 5-1 after Week 6.

McCaffrey is a key part of the Niners offense and currently leads the league with 553 rushing yards. With 730 scrimmage yards, he also ranks second in the league behind wide receiver Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins (828). His nine total touchdowns are also the second-most in the NFL behind Miami running back Raheem Mostert (11).

NFL: McCaffrey draws level with OJ Simpson

McCaffrey also scored at least one touchdown in the 15th consecutive game on Sunday. He tied Hall of Famers OJ Simpson and John Riggins for the second-longest streak in NFL history. Only Lenny Moore is ahead of him with 17 such games in a row.

In addition to McCaffrey, left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel also have a good chance of playing again in the Monday Night Game in Week 7. Williams is dealing with an ankle injury and Samuel is dealing with a shoulder injury.
