Samantha Steenwijk is finally slammed by Marcus den Blanken, star journalist of the AD media editors. He absolutely does not attract her as a jury member in the SBS 6 show De Hollandse Nieuwe.
De Hollandse Nieuwe is the new Saturday evening show of SBS 6 in which folk singers audition in their own living room. Three judges will then come to the floor: Danny de Munk, René Froger and the inevitable Samantha Steenwijk. It is horrible, says AD media journalist Marcus den Blanken. He really doesn’t like her.
Samantha overkill
Marcus watched the first episode last weekend and found it all a bit disappointing. “Yes, it was a bit disappointing. I’ve said it before that maybe you shouldn’t portray certain people too much. In this case it was again. Do you have any idea who I’m talking about?” he says in the AD Media podcast†

Marcus agrees. He finds Samantha falling short as a juror. “Yes, you have René Froger and he gave very nice comments and then you had Samantha Steenwijk and she said all the time: ‘What a…’ Then it always came out: ‘What a crest!’ or: ‘What a vote!’ So she says what she sees.”
The format doesn’t work very well either, says Marcus. “I don’t think they should have done those home auditions either. You have to organize a kind of outdoor bar where all the people who like this kind of music are and that they come up one by one.”
Colleague Angela de Jong: “A kind of Music Party on the Square?”
Marcus: “Yeah, exactly.”
home auditions
Those home auditions don’t add much, Marcus thinks. “I didn’t think it added much that it’s home. In fact, I think it detracts a bit. Then they come into that living room and every time you have the same proposal round and people who say: ‘Oh, I’ve never had celebrities in my house!’ Yes…”
Angela: “I have to say: it started with someone who was good. I think the first candidate was really good.”
