Sales of children’s books rise by 71 percent in Children’s Book Week | show

The sale of books – and children’s books in particular – rose sharply during the Children’s Book Week. Total book sales rose 21 percent last week. For children’s books, this growth percentage is even 71 percent. CPNB has announced this today.

According to the CPNB, this edition is above average successful. The large peak of attention for children’s books in the media is usually always reflected in the sales figures. But in 2021, the increase in sales amounted to 49 percent.

Earlier this week it became clear that half of the Bestseller 60, the list of best-selling books in the Netherlands, consists of children’s books this week. In first place Egalus by Marije Tolman, the Picture Book of this Children’s Book Week. Another remarkable climber is the winner of the Gouden Griffel, the book Movies that don’t run anywhere by Yorick Goldewijk. This title rises from place 34 last week to fourth place this week.

Golden Brush winner, Terra Ultima by Raoul Deleo, returns in 18th place in the list. Other success titles that stand out in the list are SuperDolfje and the Green Giant from Paul van Loon, Uncle Weed by Tosca Menten and The amazing 13-storey tree house by Andy Griffiths. The children’s book author has been in the Netherlands in recent days and visited a large number of children’s book stores.
