Liverpool FC and match winner Mohamed Salah secured the Christmas championship in the Premier League with a lavish football festival and further extended their lead in the table. Salah also made history.

Coach Arne Slot’s team deservedly won 6:3 (3:1) at Tottenham Hotspur. In the table, the Reds are now four points ahead of Chelsea FC, who couldn’t get more than a 0-0 draw at Everton FC. Liverpool also played one less game.

The outstanding player on the pitch was Liverpool’s Salah. The 32-year-old Egyptian scored his goals 228 and 229 in the Liverpool FC jersey with a brace (55th minute/61st) and prepared two more goals. Salah became the first player in Premier League history to reach double figures in both goals (15) and assists (11) in a single season before Christmas.

This mark was once narrowly missed by Harry Kane, who achieved nine goals and ten assists at Tottenham in 2020/21 by Christmas. The current Bayern star must be given credit for the fact that he only had 14 games until the festival in the season that was characterized by the corona pandemic. He then finished the 20/21 season with 23 goals and 14 assists. Salah’s best in a championship round is 32 goals and ten assists (2017/18). With 170 goals, he has long been Liverpool FC’s top scorer in the Premier League.

The other goals in the 6-3 win against Tottenham were scored by Luis Díaz (23rd/85th), Alexis Mac Allister (36th) and Dominik Szoboszlai (45th+1). For the Londoners, James Maddison (41st), Dejan Kulusevski (73rd) and Dominic Solanke (83rd) scored the highest-scoring result of the current Premier League season. Only six times since the league was founded in 1992 have more goals been scored in a game. On Boxing Day (9 p.m.) Liverpool will play against Leicester City on Boxing Day.
