Singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter is working on a new project: In an upcoming musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” she will play the lead role and also act as a producer. It has not yet been officially confirmed whether Carpenter will actually play the iconic role of Alice – but there are many indications that he will.

A modern Alice with a musical approach
As “The Hollywood Reporter” reports, the film is being made at Universal Pictures and is considered Carpenter’s personal “passion project.” In addition to an acting role, she is producing the film together with Marc Platt, who has already enjoyed great success with musicals such as “Wicked”. Lorene Scafaria, who showed with the Jennifer Lopez film “Hustlers” that she can direct stories about strong, complex women with a musical flair, was hired to write and direct.
A specific release date has not yet been set, nor has the rest of the cast. What is certain, however, is that it is a lavishly staged musical that is intended to show the well-known story in a new light – between classic fairy tales, modern pop and Carpenter’s own artistic signature.
“Alice in Wonderland” has been filmed several times – in 1951 as a Disney animated classic and in 2010 in Tim Burton’s live-action version with Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp.

For Carpenter, “Alice in Wonderland” is a return to her cinematic roots. She became known through the Disney series “Life and Riley (Girl Meets World)” before becoming one of the most successful pop musicians of her generation.
