Russia’s closest ally Belarus is going to the polls today, but Lukashenko’s re-election is already certain

Belarusians will go to the polls on Sunday for elections with a predictable outcome. Aleksandr Lukashenko, 70, is now preparing for a seventh consecutive term as president. It is also expected that he will face much less opposition than in his previous – very controversial – election victory.
