Arantxa Rus has qualified for the quarterfinals of a WTA tournament for the first time this year on Wednesday. The best tennis player in the Netherlands settled in the second round in Rabat with the Hungarian Dalma Gálfi.

The 31-year-old Russian was too strong for Gálfi, the number 98 in the world, on the Moroccan clay after an hour and a half of playing 6-4 and 6-2. Russian is 22 places higher in the world ranking

The South Holland player was last October in Tenerife among the best eight at a WTA tournament. This season she made it through the first round at the highest level four times this week (in Qatar, Lyon, Marbella and Istanbul), after which she always stranded in the second round.

In the quarterfinals in Rabat, the seventh seeded Russian may face Garbiñe Muguruza, the number ten in the world. The Spanish number one on the placement list must first beat the Italian Martina Trevisan.

Rus is preparing in Morocco for Roland Garros, which starts on Sunday. Due to her place in the top hundred of the world ranking, the Dutchman has qualified directly for the Grand Slam tournament in Paris.
