Russia suspends aircraft deal with Bermuda

The authorities took such a step after the decision of the Bermuda authorities to revoke the airworthiness certificates of those aircraft of Russian companies that were registered in Bermuda.

The Russian government has ordered the suspension of an agreement with Bermuda governing the oversight of aircraft registered in the territory. How says in a post on the government’s website, the move was necessary to secure the aircraft registration process in Russia.

“Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to suspend the intergovernmental agreement with Bermuda on the transfer of supervision over registered aircraft, which has been in force since 1999. This will create conditions for the registration of civil aircraft in the state register of the Russian Federation and remove the risks for passenger air transportation.

Utair announced the registration in the Russian register of 50 aircraft out of 59

The transfer of aircraft to the Russian state register will enable the Federal Air Transport Agency to monitor the maintenance of their airworthiness instead of foreign regulators, the government notes.

The Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority previously reported that Russian airlines that have Bermuda-registered aircraft in their fleet will not be able to fly them after 2:59 Moscow time on March 13. The validity of the airworthiness certificates of these aircraft, without which the aircraft is not allowed to operate, was suspended due to international sanctions against the Russian aviation sector.
