Russia recognizes not only the independence of the self-proclaimed Eastern Ukrainian ‘people’s republics’ of Donetsk and Luhansk, but now of the entire region in which those two areas are located, the so-called Donetsk Basin. Earlier on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he considered only Donetsk and Luhansk itself independent.
