MOSCOW (dpa-AFX) – Russia has once again called on the Ukrainian armed forces in the embattled port city of Mariupol to lay down their arms. Battalions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and foreign mercenaries should be able to safely exit the city via a corridor this Tuesday morning towards Kyiv-controlled areas, Major General Mikhail Mizintsev of the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday. “All those who lay down their arms are guaranteed their lives,” he said.

This Tuesday, another attempt should be made to bring civilians and foreign citizens from the city on the Azov Sea to safety, he said. In the past few days, the Ukrainian side has repeatedly prevented people from being taken out of Mariupol. The information could not be verified by an independent party.

In its evening report, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had destroyed two ammunition depots and a fuel depot and two command posts in new attacks. In addition, the pro-Russian separatists in the Luhansk region have made two kilometers more progress. According to Russian information, 90 percent of the Luhansk region is no longer under Ukrainian control./mau/DP/he
