Russia boycotts the Oscars

Russia is not going to nominate its films for the Oscars.

Several international sources reported that Russia is not going to participate in the upcoming Oscars.

The boycott is due to the support given to Ukraine by the West.

– The management team of the Film Academy has decided not to name an Oscar candidate this year, the press release published by the Russian Film Academy late on Monday evening states.

Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov also stated that Russia simply shouldn’t participate in the Oscars, because the rest of the world doesn’t even seem to recognize its existence at the moment.

Instead of the Oscars, Mikhalkov proposes a separate award gala for the countries of Eurasia, Central Asia and the Caucasus.

Mikhalkov himself won the best foreign film Oscar in 1994 for his film Burnt by the Sun.

The Oscars will take place on March 12 next spring.
