Runners from Kloosterveen bring liberation fire to Assen: ‘Honor to do’

The group arrived in Drenthe around 9 am. At first it didn’t seem to work. “We were a little behind. Fortunately, a number of people were able to prevent that,” says Gerbrand Hop, runner at the club. “Around that point, we started to feel a bit sluggish, probably from lack of sleep.”

Colleague Alie Wallet is especially happy that the group can celebrate May 5 with this promotion. “Especially because it is now very topical with the situation in Ukraine. This day symbolizes that we can live in freedom. We should be really grateful that we can enjoy it.”

In the afternoon the group arrived back in Assen. Just in time to quickly gulp down a cup of soup. “Just to get some salt in the body”, Koning winks.
