The future of Florian Wirtz remains a hot topic. Now a former Bayern boss is verbally on the offensive.
Florian Wirtz is one of the most coveted players in Europe. Despite his contract in Leverkusen, FC Bayern have already publicly commented on the national player’s possible commitment. Now Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has also confirmed the club’s interest in the 21-year-old.
“Florian Wirtz is the best player in Germany for me. And I also make no secret of the fact that it must be very clear to sign our goal,” said the former Bavaria CEO of the “evening newspaper”. Bavaria’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß had previously expressed hope of an obligation by Wirtz, but only assessed the opportunities as low.
Bayer Leverkusen’s playmaker, who has sparked great interest throughout Europe, still has a contract until summer 2027. Its market value is well over 100 million euros. “Uli said Wirtz was his dream – and that was still politely put. Everyone at FC Bayern agrees that he is exactly the player we want to get. Not to weaken Leverkusen, but to strengthen us,” said Rummenigge.
FC Bayern is currently eight points ahead at the top of the Bundesliga table, followed by Bayer Leverkusen. In the Champions League, both teams will meet in the round of 16 next week.
Rummenigge praised the development of the Werkself and sees it as the greatest competition in the coming years. “Leverkusen has now replaced Borussia Dortmund, very clearly. That will be the team, which will probably also demand the most in the next few years,” he said. In his view, the upcoming duels in the premier class are also trend -setting: “In the Champions League, we could advance to Leverkusen the decisive thrust towards the final.”
