“Christy” ranks among the failures of cinema history
The biopic “Christy” tells of the athlete’s rapid rise and the formative events of her private life – her fight against stereotypical role models in competitive sports and the experiences of violence at the hands of her ex-husband, who was also her manager and trainer.
The film opened in 2,011 cinemas in the United States on the weekend of October 8th and 9th and grossed 1.3 million US dollars – the equivalent of a good one million euros. An average of just under 650 dollars, or around 560 euros, was collected per cinema, as “NME” reported. According to the industry journal “Discussing Film”, “Christy” is one of the biggest failures in cinema history. It is unclear whether and when the biopic will be released in this country.
