Ruble in free fall, oil prices up over 6 percent higher

The Russian ruble lost nearly 30 percent of its value against the US dollar on Monday as a result of the latest financial sanctions against Russia. The price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil rose by more than 6 percent on Monday and that of Brent crude oil by more than 5 percent. Traders are increasingly concerned about an energy crisis, following new Western sanctions against Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.
