WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – Before talks with Moscow this weekend, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asserts that he does not want to force either Ukraine or the aggressor Russia to find a solution to the Ukraine war. “It’s not about forcing an agreement on anyone,” he told reporters. Instead, it should be discussed what both warring parties “are willing to give and whether these two points overlap.”

Rubio emphasized: “There can be no peace agreement if Ukraine does not agree. And of course there can be no peace agreement if Russia does not agree.”

The USA has more pressing problems than the war in Ukraine. “If you asked me about priorities, I would argue that something in our hemisphere that serves our national interests is more important than something on another continent.” However, that doesn’t make Ukraine and Russia unimportant, which is why the US is taking care of it, said Rubio.

This weekend, representatives of the US government and the Kremlin will meet in Miami for further talks about an end to the Ukraine war./ngu/DP/nas
