Nicolien Kroon, one of RTL’s weather forecasters, behaves like a bully in the weather department. At least, that’s what TV critic Victor Vlam says based on insiders. “The working atmosphere is really bad.”
According to TV critic Victor Vlam, things are not going well at the RTL Weather editorial office. “I have received some signals that something is really going wrong in the editorial office of the RTL Weather, the Buienradar editorial office,” he says. “The stories I hear are that the chef there, Nicolien Kroon, who is also a weather forecaster on television, is guilty of bullying behavior.”
Bullying behavior
Bullying behavior? That’s quite an accusation. “At least that’s what my sources say,” he continues in his podcast Victor Indicates TV. “One of the things she does, for example, is that she no longer schedules people for the weather after the Half past Seven News. That is the most important bulletin that has the most viewers, so people like to do that.”
Nicolien would have control over that. “People she doesn’t like are not scheduled for that. RTL has no fewer than nine weather people, so I can imagine there is some competition among them. According to my sources, she pits people against each other and all that kind of stuff.”
External agency
According to Victor, the top management of RTL takes it very seriously. “I have to be very honest: I don’t know the details about it and it doesn’t interest me very much, but what I did understand is that an external agency was hired to map out the bad atmosphere. I thought: well, that’s a concrete fact, I’m going to check that with RTL.”
RTL reports: “We attach great importance to a good working atmosphere and healthy relationships in the editorial office. We are constantly working on this and we take all signals in this regard seriously. From the point of view of being a careful employer, we treat personnel issues confidentially and we do not make any public statements about them.”
No denial
That is not a confirmation from RTL. But, Victor notes: “They don’t deny it either. According to my sources, that agency is responsible for mapping the bad atmosphere in that sub-editorial department and at the same time thinking about how it can be solved.”
According to him, the fact that an external agency was engaged really says a lot. “That means it has already escalated considerably.”
