RTL weatherman Jordi Huirne has sparked controversy with his enthusiastic coverage of warm weather in the Netherlands. Some viewers feel he glorifies high temperatures, prompting backlash. “It’s quite concerning,” they express.

For Huirne, becoming a weatherman on television is a dream come true. He started at SBS 6 and transitioned to RTL 4, where he now presents daily weather forecasts. Generally, he receives positive feedback; however, some viewers believe he shows too much enthusiasm when temperatures soar.
Heat Stress
Acknowledging his audience’s concerns, Huirne tries to consider viewers’ experiences and potential heat stress issues. He said, “Not everyone is thrilled about nice weather, so I aim to keep it somewhat objective.”
He adds, “If I talk too much about good weather, some people complain that it’s too hot. I see this reaction happening. Even when I stay relatively neutral, some online comments can take on a rather threatening tone.”
Angry Viewers
These viewers express their anger strongly, according to Huirne. “They say things like, ‘Why are you glorifying the beautiful weather? I’m dying of the heat; it’s thirty degrees in my house.’”
Huirne, however, tries to brush off the negativity. “I don’t keep track of everything that people say online, as I’m just delivering the message and can’t change the weather.”
A Childhood Dream
How does Huirne feel about his transition from SBS to RTL? “I started as the youngest weatherman at SBS6, and I’ve been in the field for five and a half to six years now. Joining RTL is truly a dream come true—a place I always wanted to be.”
“At RTL 4, I can present the weather in the morning, evening, and even on RTL 5. It’s very diverse, with wonderful colleagues by my side. I’ve fulfilled my childhood dream, and I’m still incredibly happy about it.”
In a world increasingly affected by climate change, the dichotomy between joy and discomfort during hot weather will likely continue to spark debate among viewers. As Huirne navigates his role, it’s crucial that he remains sensitive to the diverse experiences of his audience while still celebrating the beauty of nature.
