This week, a terror cell was rounded up in Antwerp that, according to Belgian justice, had plans for attacks on, among others, Geert Wilders and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever. The threat led to extra alertness and tightened security on both sides of the border.

Yet the Belgian Prime Minister does not seem to deviate much from his routine. De Wever is back at work this weekend. His government continued unperturbed with the budget talks.

Wilders ‘doesn’t feel safe enough’

Wilders, on the other hand, said that he “does not yet feel safe enough” to resume his campaign and is therefore temporarily taking a step back at his own request. Justice Minister Foort van Oosten responded to The National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) currently sees no concrete threat, but emphasizes that caution remains necessary.

The PVV leader also canceled the NOS Radio 1 debate on Friday because of the same threat that also concerned De Wever. Flemish political life is already running at full speed. De Wever has resumed his public appointments.
