RTL 4 has made a significant decision: the popular soap opera “Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden” will continue to air for another year on regular television. Fans of the series can breathe a sigh of relief as the show will also retain its familiar time slot of 8:00 PM.

However, the future of “Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden” (GTST) remains uncertain. There are ongoing discussions about the possibility of the show eventually moving exclusively to Videoland, especially given that it has been losing viewers over the years. In fact, just over a month ago, a historical moment occurred when SBS 6 overtook RTL 4 in the ratings at 8:00 PM with “Bondgenoten.”

Rumors and Speculations

Following this shocking defeat, Luuk Ikink revealed some strong rumors on RTL Boulevard, suggesting that RTL 4 was indeed contemplating ending GTST on regular television. He mentioned sources indicating that RTL was considering moving host Renze to a later time slot at 10:00 PM, which could affect GTST’s air time.

The decision has now been made: Renze will indeed shift to 10:00 PM. However, this change has come at the expense of Arjen Lubach, who will no longer host his program at that time.

A Historic Moment

But does this mean GTST has been saved? Not necessarily. Each summer, it becomes evident that RTL 4 can perform better at 8:00 PM with different programming. Historically, when GTST takes its summer break, ratings tend to soar as quiz shows hosted by Ruben Nicolai fill the gap.

Last September, RTL 4 stated for the first time in 35 years that they couldn’t completely rule out the possibility of GTST leaving the airwaves. “We are closely monitoring the ratings, just like we do with every program. Currently, there’s no plan for GTST to move to Videoland, but as the saying goes, never say never,” explained Rob Goossens during RTL Boulevard.

A Shift in Television

The stars on the Boulevard desk expressed their shock at these comments. “Did they really say that?” both Bridget Maasland and Luuk Ikink exclaimed in disbelief. Rob reassured them, “Yes, and this is the first time we’ve heard such talk. Television is undergoing massive changes; making promises about the next four years is tricky given the evolving landscape.”

For Now, GTST Lives On

The silver lining for the cast and fans of GTST is that the soap series will remain on air for the upcoming season. RTL confirmed that “Season 37” will premiere on Monday, August 31, at 8:00 PM on RTL 4 and will be available for streaming on Videoland starting Thursday, August 27.

In summary, the continuing saga of “Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden” reflects the shifting dynamics of television viewership, but for now, fans can still enjoy their favorite show on the screen.
