Roy Donders is furious with AvroTros because he will never receive an invitation to Music Festival on the Plein again. He does not look for the cause within himself, but with the broadcaster: “Favouritism!”
It couldn’t get any crazier: Roy Donders, that boy from those suits, turns out to be singing too. And guess what? His songs are as tasteless as his suits! If you are not even invited to the hoempapa festival Music Festival on the Square, then you have made it very bad as an ‘artist’.
Roy is furious
Roy Donders did not receive a single invitation after his performance in 2014 and he is furious about that. “I just want to make a quick joke. That was the last time I was there at the TROS Music Festival. I was there once and I thought it was really cool and after that I was never asked again. Yes, why?” he begins in Shownieuws.
According to Roy, it is not his fault, but the AvroTros’ fault. “Look, in the whole of TV land it is not about who you are, but who you know. Yeah, and I’m just not a picker. I would never hook up with someone or make fun of someone because that person is a channel manager or a director or an editor.”
‘It’s scandalous’
Roy is really pissed off about it. “I think TROS… Anyway, the whole of the Netherlands thinks so, right? We have the Eurovision Song Contest in which we all have no say every year, the TROS Music Festival on the Square, the Big Singing Along Party. Yes, there are two people there in the turret or in the room and they decide who is there.”
The taxpayer simply deserves him on stage, according to Roy. “It is very scandalous, because it is really our money that pays their salaries. I actually find it absurd that I was never asked again, because the whole square was turned upside down and it was one big party. There is real favoritism there, yes.”
Insult
Story boss Guido den Aantrekker does not think it is strange that they pass Roy: “It is perhaps also a bit of an insult to other artists who have been singing for forty years that Roy Donders suddenly has to be added to the line-up.”
Unfortunately, Rob’s other hobby, tinkering with his appearance, is also on the back burner. “I have teeth that I really wanted, I have a beard that I really wanted and I have the figure that I really wanted. Well, something sportier would be nice, but of course I have to go to the gym for that. So no, I’m actually completely satisfied.”
