Rowing World Championship: Four German boats miss the finals

Status: 09/22/2022 1:29 p.m

The German Rowing Association (DRV) missed the finals at the World Championships in the Czech Republic with four boats.

All of the teams that started in the 14 Olympic competition classes lagged far behind the competition in the semi-finals. The men’s and women’s lightweight double sculls, the men’s coxless four and the women’s double sculls each missed out on the top three in their semi-finals and thus only bought tickets for the B-finals.

The coxless four around batsman Marc Kammann came closest to the final in fifth place, ultimately missing three seconds. The easy double sculls had no chance in their semi-finals. The male duo Paul Leerkamp and Arno Gaus finished last, as did Marion and Johanna Reichardt. The men were six and the women 13 seconds short of a place in the A finals. The women’s quad scull around batswoman Sophie Leupold also finished eleven seconds behind third place.

Corona-related cancellations

After several corona-related cancellations in the Czech Republic, the DRV only starts in eight of the 14 Olympic classes. The only hopes for a medal are defending champion Oliver Zeidler and Alexandra Föster, third at the European Championships, who will be contesting their semi-finals on Friday. The men’s eight is then also required in the repechage.
