Borussia Mönchengladbach’s new sports director should arrive soon. According to information from Salzburg, Rouven Schröder’s departure from Red Bull is a done deal.
The way for Rouven Schröder back to the Bundesliga has been prepared. As the “Salzburger Nachrichten” reported on Monday, the departure of sports director Schröder has been decided.
This means that the 49-year-old could take up the position as sports director at Borussia Mönchengladbach and succeed Roland Virkus if the financial terms between the two clubs are clarified. Schröder still has a contract with the Austrian club until 2028. According to further information from Austria, the transfer fee should be around 1.5 million euros.
Schröder, who previously worked as sports director at SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Werder Bremen, FC Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig, has a lot of work waiting for him after Virkus’ resignation. The most urgent personnel issue to be clarified is the coaching question. After the separation from Gerardo Seoane, U23 coach Eugen Polanski is the coach of the professional team “until further notice” and should remain so according to the wishes of the club’s committees. The new sports director would also have to approve this.
Borussia is the only first division team still without a win this season. The five-time German champions last won the Bundesliga in March.
