Rouven Schröder from FC Schalke 04 to Leipzig? RB boss takes a stand

After his surprising resignation from his position at FC Schalke 04, Rouven Schröder was linked with a move to Leipzig. Now RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff has commented on the rumors.

Rouven Schröder dropped a small bombshell at FC Schalke last week when he unexpectedly quit his job as sports director. Personal reasons are said to have been decisive for the decision of the 47-year-old.

It didn’t take long for the first speculation about a possible move to Bundesliga competitor RB Leipzig. Despite Max Eberl’s commitment, the Saxons are still looking for a reinforcement for the sporting management.

RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff has now been asked about the rumors of Schröder’s engagement by “Sport Bild”. His answer was unequivocal.

Rouven Schröder from FC Schalke to RB? “He’s not an issue for us”

“I know and appreciate Rouven very much – as a person and also as a manager. He played a key role in FC Schalke’s promotion to the Bundesliga and I think he did a really good job there right up to the end,” Mintzlaff praised Schröder’s work in Gelsenkirchen. At the same time, the official made it clear: “It’s not an issue for us.”

Eberl, who will act as Managing Director Sport at RB from December, should first focus on other topics. “Max and I clearly discussed that he would take the time to get to know our existing team as well as our structures and processes,” emphasized Mintzlaff, who sees Leipzig “very well positioned overall”.

It is still unclear who will follow Schröder at FC Schalke. For the time being, sports director Peter Knäbel has taken over the responsibilities of promotion manager. A new strongman could come in the winter break.
