Route of the golden carriage after coronation Charles is much shorter than 70 years ago with his mother | show

Buckingham Palace revealed more details about Charles’s coronation on May 6 on Sunday evening. For example, the route of the parade through London has been announced and which carriages will be used.

In the morning, King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla board the Diamond Jubilee State Coach at Buckingham Palace, the coach built for Queen Elizabeth’s 60th anniversary in 2012. The journey includes The Mall and Parliament Square to Westminster Abbey, where the ceremony begins at 11 a.m. local time (12 a.m. in the Netherlands).

After the service, Charles and Camilla take approximately the same route back in the golden carriage. That carriage drove through London for the first time in twenty years during Elizabeth’s 70th anniversary last year.

According to Buckingham Palace, the route is much shorter than it was 70 years ago at Elizabeth’s coronation, when the new queen was cheered by millions of people who lined the 7.2-kilometer route at the time. Charles and Camilla will now only cover a third of that. In a documentary that aired in 2018, Elizabeth said that the ride in the golden carriage, which can only drive at a walking pace, was not at all comfortable.

Special emoji

To show that the palace is keeping up with the modern times, a special emoji based on the historic St Edward’s Crown will also be revealed, which will be placed on Charles’ head during the service. The emoji will be shown on Twitter when certain hashtags related to the coronation are used. These include #Coronation, #CoronationConcert and #CoronationWeekend.
