BERGAMO (dpa-AFX) – Borussia Dortmund (BVB (Borussia Dortmund)) has sharply criticized police measures against fans from the ultra scene before the second leg of the Champions League playoff at Atalanta Bergamo. “We have little understanding when it comes to disproportionate measures,” said Dortmund’s sports director Lars Ricken. “Our fans don’t deserve to start arbitrary actions.”
BVB became aware “that some BVB fans were refused permission to travel to Italy.” Other supporters of the second-place team in the Bundesliga were visited by the police in their accommodation in Italy. The active Dortmund fan scene therefore decided to stay away from the game on Wednesday (6.45 p.m./DAZN).
“Despite the comprehensibility of a security-oriented risk assessment of a football game, Borussia Dortmund is more than surprised by the scope and dimension of the police measures taken,” said the club.
The “Südtribüne Dortmund” alliance justified the absence of the organized fans with reprisals, which “represent a novelty for us in almost 16 years of uninterrupted European Cup presence.” BVB coach Niko Kovac regretted that “some fans were excluded. But we will still have great support to survive in this difficult game.”

“Such measures have never been taken in this form and intensity in connection with Borussia Dortmund’s international away games,” the club continued. The club is currently not aware of any more detailed background information about the measures taken by the authorities. No one was informed about this in advance.
