BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – More and more people are having minimally invasive procedures carried out by a cosmetic surgeon. Minimally invasive procedures include, for example, treatments with Botox or hyaluronic acid, in which wrinkles are plumped up or lips are injected. Surgery is not necessary in these cases. For the year 2025, doctors will report around 16 percent more such procedures than in 2024. This emerges from a member survey of 100 doctors by the Association of German Aesthetic-Plastic Surgeons (VDÄPC).

“This is actually a trend,” said VDÄPC President Alexander Schönborn at a press conference on the occasion of the VDÄPC annual meeting in Berlin. Minimally invasive procedures now account for around 63 percent of all procedures, as members reported.

Particularly in demand among younger people

There is a tendency towards these interventions, especially among younger people between 18 and 30 years old, said VDÄPC President Michaela Montanari. “I think a really big reason is (…) the social media, the beauty chains, which specifically target this age group, this clientele.”

Lip injections are trendy

When asked, Schönborn confirmed the impression that more and more young women were having their lips injected. The role of plastic surgeons is to deal with demand responsibly and to give patients good advice. He does not consider this trend to be worrying.

However, the experts are critical of the fact that Botox etc. are sometimes offered by beauticians or alternative practitioners who are not qualified for it or that young women order Botox online and inject it themselves.

Why some treatments are rejected

According to the member survey, Botox took first place among the top 10 most common procedures in 2025. In second place was hyaluronic acid, followed by blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), liposuction and breast enlargement. Overall, significantly more women (around 90 percent) than men (around 10 percent) had something done. A good third of the doctors refused treatment for 6 and 10 percent of the patients. The main reason was expectations that could not be met, said Schönborn./bum/DP/men
