Washington (dpa-AfX)-US President Donald Trump enforces his hard migration policy and announces drastic retaliation against Colombia in the dispute over deportation frequencies. The government in Bogotá had previously banned the landing of two US military aircraft with Colombian migrants deported from the USA.
Trump reacted immediately and announced, among other things, penalty tariffs of 25 percent and entry bans. “These measures are just the beginning,” threatened the Republican. Colombia’s head of state Gustavo Petro immediately steered to avert the punitive measures.
Petro had his decision not to let the US military aircraft land, so that migrants are not criminals and should be treated with dignity. That is why he had the US military aircraft sent back. After Trump’s Harscher announcement, he declared that he made his presidential aircraft available to enable the Colombian nationals to return to the “decent return of the Colombian nationals”.
Active discussions would be held with the US government to make agreements “that ensure a minimum level of respect and human-ranging treatment of nationals during the deportation procedure,” he said.
USA import coffee and fruits from Colombia
According to Petro’s refusal, Trump announced that the US military machines loaded the so-called emergency oils of 25 percent imposed on all goods from Colombia that would be introduced to the United States. A week later, the additional tariffs are to be raised to 50 percent. The United States imports from the country on the northern tip of South America, among other things, coffee – Colombia is one of the largest coffee exporters in the world. Bananas and other tropical fruits such as mangoes, avocados and pineapple are also introduced from Colombia.
According to the US government, trading in goods and services between the United States and Colombia were an estimated $ 53.5 billion in 2022 (around 51 billion euros). Exports were $ 28.7 billion, and imports of $ 24.8 billion.
Trump sees national security at risk
Trump continued that he also ordered an entry ban and an immediate visa withdrawal for Colombian government officials, family members and supporters of the Colombian government. There will also be increased customs and border protection controls in all Colombian nationals and goods for reasons of national security.
Petros’ refusal to land the flights to Colombia endangered “the national and public security of the United States,” wrote the Republican. “We will not allow the Colombian government to violate its legal obligations regarding the admission and return of the criminals inserted into the United States!” In a separate message from the White House, the Colombia state was missed (“Columbia” instead of correctly “Colombia”).
US deportation also causes trouble with Brazil
Previously, the Brazilian government had already complained about the “degrading” treatment of dozens of migrants that had been deported to the city of Belo Horizons from the United States. The flight made an intermediate landing in the city of Manaus when the government learned about the conditions. The migrants were captivated by hands and feet and the aircraft’s air conditioning was defective, as Brazil’s Foreign Ministry said. The migrants were then removed and they were transported further transported in a Brazilian Air Force aircraft.
US authorities start surgery against migrants in Chicago
Trump’s government had advanced arrest and deportation from migrants without a residence permit since his inauguration on Monday. So far, however, the actions have remained behind what the president and his people had announced as a never -ending deportation program.
However, the immigration authority ICE announced on Sunday that in the US metropolis of Chicago it started with “targeted missions” against migrants without a residence permit. The extent of the actions was initially unclear.
ICE announced that it was supported by law enforcement authorities such as the Federal Police FBI. The aim is to “enforce the United States immigration laws and to ensure public security and national security by keeping potentially dangerous criminals from our communities”.
Trump’s boss for border security: number of arrests will increase
The US broadcaster CNN wrote of a “lightning campaign” in which several federal authorities received additional powers to arrest immigrants without papers in the USA. However, the broadcaster reported that it was an operation lasting several days that would extend across the country.
The man who Trump used to supervise the planned “mass deportation” was similar. “You will see that the number of arrests will increase steadily nationwide,” Tom Homan told the US broadcaster ABC. “If you are illegally in the country, you will be arrested because it is not okay to violate the laws of this country.” Homan also made it clear that more financial support from the congress is needed to implement Trump’s far -reaching plans ./nau/dp/zb
