Lorenzo Sonego fights, but it’s not enough. The Rotterdam crowd enjoyed a high-level match. As expected, Dimitrov commands the operations and Lorenzo manages to resist as much as he can. After a complicated start (immediate break for the Bulgarian) the Italian enters the match, immediately mends the gap and manages to bring the set to a tie break, despite an extraordinary performance from his opponent with the first serve: throughout the match, Dimitrov doesn’t lose a single point when he isn’t forced to play the second, 39 out of 39. Well done to Sonego in managing to create the chances anyway: after the tie break won 7-4 by Grigor, Lorenzo has two break points in the fifth game of the second set, after canceling as many with two excellent serves in the previous game. In the end, in the eighth game, the break comes in favor of Dimitrov: it is the moment that, in fact, he closes the match.

The day opened with the victory of Monfils in two straight sets against Shapovalov (7-6 7-6) and the success of Ruusuvuori in three sets against Humbert, fresh champion in Marseille in the final against Dimitrov.
