Rotterdam is the first city of Library to make free for everyone: ‘Life is already becoming more expensive’

Every Rotterdammer can become a member of the library for free from 1 May. Moreover, for books that are returned too late, the library no longer charges fines. That must yield 20,000 new members and remove thresholds. Rotterdam is the first city in the Netherlands to do this in this way. “Many people drop out when they have to pay.”
