No new contract
Third division team Rot-Weiss Essen and defender Felix Herzenbruch are going their separate ways after four years. The 30-year-old, who has played 32 games (one goal) so far this season, will not receive a new contract at Hafenstrasse. “Yes, that is unfortunately true and was communicated to me on Wednesday morning. Of course I’m super disappointed. I was hoping by Wednesday that I would receive a new contract offer after this decent season. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Now I have to think about my future,” confirmed the fan favorite in an interview with “Responsive sport“.
Marcus Steegmann, director of professional football, added: “We informed Felix Herzenbruch yesterday that we would not be extending his contract. It wasn’t an easy decision for us, he’s a great person and he does a great job for RWE. We have a different idea going forward defensively, so it was a decision for something new, not against ‘Herze’. We really wish him all the best for his sporting future and would like to be able to bind him back to us in the medium term and, for example, integrate him into our NLZ.” According to “Reviersport”, the expiring contracts of offensive players Kevin Holzweiler (28) and Oguzhan Kefkir (31) will probably not be renewed.
