Rose keeps promises: Gulácsi against Bern in the RB goal – “No signs” of a change

Trust in regular keeper Blaswich

RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose has expressed confidence in goalkeeper Janis Blaswich after his recent mistakes. “If you perform as consistently as Janis over a year, then I can’t see that we have to worry about anything,” said the 47-year-old before the final group game in the Champions League on Wednesday evening against BSC Young Boys.

Blaswich, who was called up to the national team for the first time in November, conceded one goal in Wolfsburg and Dortmund due to two errors. While Leipzig lost in Wolfsburg, the mistake in the 3-2 win at BVB had no consequences. Blaswich also showed insecurities against Heidenheim – but the “Red Bulls” still have the third-best defense in the league with 15 goals conceded.

In the Champions League, the 32-year-old still has to clear the goal on Wednesday (6:45 p.m.). Rose fulfills his promise and gives Péter Gulácsi match practice. The 33-year-old tore his cruciate ligament in October 2022 and was captain and undisputed top performer until then.

The Hungarian national goalkeeper has the goal of taking part in the European Championships in Germany. For this he needs assignments that he probably won’t get in Leipzig. Rose still sees the veteran in the second half of the season with the Saxons. “There are no signs at all that Pete is in any way thinking about doing something new,” emphasized the coach. “Unfortunately we can’t provide any headlines.” Like the “Picture“ reported a few weeks ago, partner club New York Red Bulls showed interest in Gulácsi, who still has a contract until 2025.

According to Rose, Gulácsi feels very comfortable. So far this season he has only been between the posts once away in the cup. The game against Bern is his first home game since the injury he sustained in the premier class against Celtic Glasgow without any outside influence. With 286 appearances, Gulácsi is in fourth place in the ranking of the most used professionals at RB Leipzig.
