The Korean is the first K-Pop artist ever receiving this price from the VMAs. The award ceremony took place on September 7th in the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York.
Emotional thank -you speech
In a thank you speech, Rosé dedicated the price to her 16-year-old: “I was afraid that I could not make my dreams come true on my way and my 16-year-old I would disappoint, which was always an outsider. 12 years later I dedicate this price to my boy and everyone who accompanied me on my way.”
The single “apt.” was voted one of the 50 best songs of the year in 2024 and one of the 25 best K-pop tracks. In addition to Rosé, Blackpink was recognized as a “best group”, while her bandmate Lisa won the K-Pop Award for the second time in a row with “Born Again” (Feat. Doja Cat & Raye). Singer Ariana Grande opened this year’s VMAS and also won the price of the music video of the year with “Brighter Days Ahead”. Lady Gaga received the award as “Artist of the Year”, while Mariah Carey received the “Video Vanguard Award”.
Rosé itself led the K-pop nominations with a total of eight entries, including in categories such as “Best Cooperation”, “Best Director” and “Best Visual Effects”. At the award ceremony, she took the award for “Apt.” Representing Bruno Mars, who was not on site.
