Former England international Wayne Rooney has lost his coaching position at English second division club Plymouth Argyle. It was agreed to go their separate ways with immediate effect, according to a club statement. Rooney only took over the coaching position in May, but only got an average of 0.84 points from 25 games. Plymouth is currently in last place in the English Championship.
The former star striker from Manchester United thanked club officials and fans: “Plymouth Argyle will always have a special place in my heart.” Having achieved great success as a player, the 39-year-old is still waiting for his breakthrough as a coach. He also only kept his previous position at Birmingham City for a short time. He had previously tried to coach in the USA at DC United and at the traditional English club Derby County – also unsuccessfully.
