The Giallorossi coach enjoys the success against Celtic: “It’s never easy to win in these stadiums. I’ve also seen good things from Pisilli and El Shaarawy.” He doesn’t close on the market: “I wish we had solved the problems…”
Roma conquers Glasgow for the second time in a month and kicks off the mini crisis seen in the league. A domination over Celtic with a clear Gasperinian imprint which projects the Giallorossi to just one point from the top eight in the group right alongside Stuttgart who will be their next opponents. At the end of the match the coach reveled in the success: “We needed an evening like this. It’s never easy to win in these stadiums, we played an excellent match. In Europe you face teams who are leaders of their nations, there are more open matches than in our championship. This allows you to have more space but also to face great attackers. I don’t think it’s easier, it’s just another type of football.”
TURN OVER
—
Then on the turnover choices and the good responses received from some hitherto little-used singles. “It’s a moment of the season when evaluations need to be made and they need to be made in the matches that count – admits Gasp -. We were facing a tough team and I saw good performances from Pisilli, Ferguson, El Shaarawy and others. We needed to regain some confidence. Physical condition depends on many things, sometimes it’s not fatigue but mental stress. I believe that these guys are well prepared on an athletic level to play more matches in the week, what isn’t always easy is playing at maximum motivation”. They will certainly be useful against Como when Roma hopes to have Ndicka and El Aynaoui. “We will know tomorrow, I hope to have them but we are not yet certain”, reiterated Gasperini.
FERGUSON
—
The protagonist of the victory was Evan Ferguson, the most discussed player in recent days. “He did in the match what he was doing recently in training – concluded the coach -. We’re talking about a young boy, we need to have patience. The second goal is very nice, but regardless of this I’m interested in the performance. He must always play with this intensity, this desire”. But the transfer market is progressing and Gasp warns: “If only we had solved the problems, it would be better if it were that way. The January market will be very important to find the conditions to improve. Roma cannot stand still and need to improve, if we stand still we risk missing an opportunity. I talked about the transfer market in July and August, then I will talk about it in January. Now the matches count and the focus must be on that and not on the rest.” In the meantime, the Irishman has found his smile again. “I’ve always worked hard to give my best and tonight it went well,” said Ferguson. “I like playing in this type of environment, I’m Irish and I felt almost at home. I know it didn’t go well at the beginning but now we’re in a new phase. Gasperini? He always tries to push me to the maximum, he expects a lot from me.”
