Romania is working up to the highest level to make clear the importance of stolen art treasures. Tomorrow the culture minister Natalia Intotero will talk to Prime Minister Dick Schoof and the royal couple.
The conversation will take place in Poland. King Willem-Alexander is with Queen Máxima, Princess Amalia and Prime Minister shoved in Poland for the commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz extermination camp. The Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu has announced the message on Facebook.
The Government Information Service says that ‘no formal meeting with the Romanian Minister of Culture is planned’. “But of course it can happen that they speak briefly during the commemoration.”
Ciolacu calls the art robbery a ‘very serious situation that must be resolved quickly’. He announces that a team from the Romanian police will come to the Netherlands. It was previously announced that the international police organization Interpol is involved in the visit.
Immediately after the robbery, Minister Casper Veldkamp (Foreign Affairs) already called his Romanian colleague Emil Hurezeanu. He informed his Romanian colleague that he would make every effort “to get these historical artifacts invaluable.”
The Romanian ambassador in the Netherlands, Nicolae Comânescu, visited the Drents Museum this morning.
