Cotofenesti’s golden helmet is justified, sources confirm to RTV Drenthe. The helmet and three gold bracelets were stolen from the Drents Museum in the early morning of January 25 last year.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that the stolen objects from the Drents Museum have been recovered.
The Public Prosecution Service will hold a press conference this afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Drents Museum during which the latest developments in the investigation into Romanian art treasures will be explained. Further details about the discovery of the stolen treasures are not yet known. The press meeting in the Drents Museum can be followed live this afternoon on radio, TV and via the RTV Drenthe website.
The golden helmet of Cotofenesti and three golden bracelets were part of the exhibition Dacia – Empire of Gold and Silver, which was on display last year in the Drents Museum in Assen. A few days before the art treasures were to return to the National Historical Museum in Bucharest, three men broke into a back entrance to the museum in Assen. They forced open a door with an explosive, entered the museum and in a few minutes they were outside with the four Romanian treasures.
In the months following the robbery, several people were arrested. The case will be substantively dealt with in the court in Assen in April. The three suspects in the robbery are Jan B., Douglas Chesley W. and Berhard Z.
