The Austrian police have busted a drug gang that imported ecstasy and speed on a large scale from Amsterdam. The originally Hungarian gang then sold the consignments in the local catering industry, on industrial estates and at events of the Romanian community. During the investigation, the police not only encountered drugs, but also serious sexual offenses.

The linchpin in the ‘Amsterdam line’ turned out to be a 38-year-old man. During a raid on his warehouse in the town of Mattighofen (above Salzburg), investigators found 1,650 ecstasy pills and more than ten thousand euros in cash at the end of April.

The man immediately made a confession. Together with accomplices, he smuggled at least 3.5 kilos of amphetamine and 3,000 ecstasy pills from the Dutch capital to Austria.

Two co-suspects (23 and 32) were previously arrested with drugs and weighing materials, as can be read in the police report.

Rapes

The wider police investigation in the region revealed even more. Police tracked down a 52-year-old Hungarian who was smuggling crystal meth from Budapest in hidden spaces of his car. This man is also suspected of serious sexual offenses. He allegedly raped his ex-girlfriend for a long time and forced her to have sex.

During his arrest in a workers’ home, the woman was found in a side room. She had now bought an alarm pistol to protect herself against him.

Drugs in the park

Parallel to the manhunt for the Hungarian gang, the police put an end to open drug trafficking in the city parks of Braunau am Inn, on the border with Germany.

There, a 19-year-old, temporarily homeless man turned out to be the kingpin in a stand-alone drug line. Since March, he has been ordering cocaine and weed from Germany via social media and selling it on.

The teenager hid his stash in the attics and basements of apartment buildings where he entered illegally. He was also arrested together with a 23-year-old accomplice.

In addition to ready-to-sell drugs, their hiding place also contained a striking loot: the stolen license plate of an Austrian speed car.
