The single costs up to 1,899 euros on Discogs. Only three copies are currently available – why the Cockroaches single is so sought after.
The Rolling Stones’ new single is currently attracting attention not only musically, but also on the collectors’ market: “Rough And Twisted”, released under the pseudonym The Cockroaches, is currently listed in “This Week’s Most Valuable Vinyl Records & CDs” at Discogs – and is ranked eighth among the most expensive recordings on offer. For comparison: “Yesterday And Today” by the Beatles is at the forefront.
Particularly noteworthy: Among the currently listed releases, which do not distinguish between albums 7″ and 12″, the 12″ is actually the second most expensive in the ranking.
There are currently only three copies of the Stones’ vinyl single available on Discogs. The Prices range between 1,700 and 1,899 Euro, each plus possible shipping costs. The cheapest copy comes from Germany and is offered without additional shipping costs.
This means that “Rough And Twisted” becomes one of the most expensive current singles on the vinyl market just a few days after its release. The small number of copies and the unusual publication policy are likely to play a central role.
Secret publication under a pseudonym
The Rolling Stones released the single in mid-April surprisingly and without official notice. The record was sold in selected record stores worldwide under the name The Cockroaches – an alias that the band had already used for two club shows in Toronto in 1977.
The campaign was accompanied by cryptic posters, a website operated by Universal Music and limited merchandising items. Fans were also able to register for a WhatsApp group in which the campaign was highlighted with the phrase “After 49 years they are returning”.
The few singles available were sold out within a short time. Shortly afterwards, recordings and reviews appeared online. Mick Jagger’s distinctive voice was particularly highlighted, leaving little doubt as to its authorship.
There are increasing hints of a new album
Parallel to the release, there are increasing indications of a new studio album by the Rolling Stones. While working on “Hackney Diamonds”, significantly more songs were said to have been created than ultimately appeared on the LP. Keith Richards had already indicated in 2023 that further material existed and was still being developed.
The single’s eye-catching sales price also recently caused speculation. Many fans interpreted the figure of £10.07 as a possible indication of a July 10 release date.
A new record has not yet been officially confirmed. There are currently no concrete tour plans. After their North American tour in 2024, reports about possible European concerts made the rounds, but a corresponding tour never materialized.
