Rolling Stones release “Mess It Up” music video featuring Nicholas Hoult

Two months after the release of their 24th record “Hackney Diamonds,” the Rolling Stones have released a music video for their song “Mess It Up.” It was released on December 19th and is particularly notable for the participation of actor Nicholas Hoult, who took on the lead role in the clip.

New video for the comeback album

The song combines the band’s signature blend of classic blues-rock with a modern pop-disco approach, which they support visually with the video. “Hackney Diamonds” marks the return of The Rolling Stones with new original material, their first since 2005.

The recordings show the story of a man who runs away after an argument with a woman. He keeps running, past different places, meets a child and runs through various scenarios until he arrives at a deserted sandy beach. He stands there, now a bit shabby with a long beard, and realizes that he has to go back. When she returned to the woman’s house, she now has a child. Another man, who now seems to live there, isn’t too enthusiastic about his sudden appearance.

“Mess It Up” is the second track from “Hackney Diamonds” to be accompanied by a music video, starting with “Angry” with Sydney Sweeney as prominent support. However, this did not only receive praise, Damon Albarn criticized the band for the portrayal of the actress in the recording, saying that she had been made into an object.

It remains to be seen what the reaction to the video with Nicholas Hoult will be. Nicholas Hoult, known for his role in the UK series Skins, also recently starred in the vampire comedy Renfield. There are also rumors that he will take on the role of Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy.
