Cobolli challenges Auger-Aliassime, derby between Arnaldi and Berrettini: the semi-finals of Roland Garros are up for grabs
Italian Wednesday, tomorrow’s, at Roland Garros. The two quarter-finals in the upper part of the men’s draw will see three Italians on the pitch, so there will necessarily be a derby. The one between Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi. First, however, it will be Flavio Cobolli’s turn against Felix Auger-Aliassime. The number 10 on the scoreboard will play the third match of the day session, which starts at 11, against Philippe Chatrier. It will be around 3pm, after Kalinskaya-Chwalinska and Sabalenka-Shnaider, the two women’s quarterfinals. Flavio, who by winning would enter the top 10 of the ATP rankings, has won both previous matches against the Canadian. However, they date back to 2024, on concrete. And, if triumphant, it would give us an all-blue Slam semi-final.

In fact, in the evening session, not before 8.15pm on Chatrier, the challenge between Matteo, Berrettini and Arnaldi is scheduled. For the former it is the seventh Slam quarter-final in his career, while for the Ligurian it is the first ever. There are no precedents between the two, with Berrettini’s peak coming before Arnaldi’s explosion at a certain level. For Italy, especially considering that the two players started the tournament just outside the 100, it will in any case be a historic match. Which ensures a tricolor semi-finalist at Roland Garros for the third year in a row. Even without Jannik Sinner. Which Berrettini, by winning, could achieve, becoming the second Italian to play at least the semi-final in all the Majors.

However, as seen, there will be two women’s matches to open the day. An obvious choice, given that the girls will play the semi-finals on Thursday, while the men will play on Friday. At 11am Anna Kalinskaya, 22nd seeded, will challenge the big surprise of the tournament Maja Chwalinska, world no.114, in the second quarter-final of her career at WTA level. This will be followed, around 1pm, by the match that will elect the other semi-finalist in the top half, between world no.1 Aryna Sabalenka and Diana Shnaider, no.25 on the scoreboard, who has come this far in a Slam for the first time. For the Belarusian, at her fourteenth consecutive Slam, the awareness of being the great favorite to avenge last year’s defeat in the final against Gauff. It will be the first cross between the two.
