No Italians in singles, while in doubles there will be Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori who will challenge Paul/Willis. Vavassori will also be involved in mixed doubles: together with Sara Errani he will challenge Stollar/Harrison. Swiatek-Kostyuk opens the women’s day

Pilgrim of the Year

May 30 – 11.47pm – MILAN

First day of the round of 16 at Roland Garros. While waiting for the hangover on Monday, with three Italians taking to the field (Cobolli, Berrettini and Arnaldi), there will be room for the big favorite of the tournament. Alexander Zverev, n.2 seeded, will play the third match from 11am against Philippe Chatrier. Not before 3.30pm will he take the field against Jesper De Jong, the fifth lucky loser capable of reaching the fourth round in the history of Roland Garros. Sasha is ahead 2-0 in previous matches, the second right here, in the second round of 2025. It will be just one of the four men’s matches scheduled.

The other men’s singles match that will be played on Chatrier will be that of Casper Ruud, two-time finalist at Roland Garros. The Norwegian will face Joao Fonseca, Novak Djokovic’s executioner, in the most anticipated match of the day at men’s level. They will take to the field in the evening session, not before 8.15pm. The other two men’s matches will instead be on Suzanne Lenglen. Rafael Jodar, the loose cannon, as the second match from 11am against Pablo Carreno Busta, after Cirstea-Wang, therefore around 1pm. As the last match, at around 6pm, the intriguing match between Jakub Mensik and Andrey Rublev, 26th and 11th seeds. As for the doubles, there will also be Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. The fifth seeded couple will play the second match on court 7, around 12.30 pm, against Paul/Willis. And Vavassori will return to that court, for the fourth match, in mixed doubles: together with Sara Errani she will challenge Stollar/Harrison.

As for the women’s draw, the most interesting match is certainly the first, at 11. Iga Swiatek, no.3 seeded and the only player still in the draw to have won this tournament (4 times), will face Marta Kostyuk. The Ukrainian, fifteenth strength of the tournament, is still undefeated this season on clay: 15 wins out of 15. The Pole has won three previous games out of three, but the most recent is in 2024, therefore to be taken into consideration relatively. After them, around 1pm, it will be the turn of Elina Svitolina and Belinda Bencic, n.7 and n.11 in the seeding. The Ukrainian team is ahead 4-2 in their previous matches, but they have never met in a Slam. The other women’s match will be the third scheduled on Lenglen, around 3.30 pm, between the eighth seed Mirra Andreeva and the surprising Jil Teichmann, n.170 WTA.
