Rogier Meijer and NEC reach agreement: trainer extends contract by one year | Dutch football

Rogier Meijer will also be the trainer of NEC next season. De Doetinchemmer has extended his expiring contract by one year.

Technical director Ted van Leeuwen of NEC and Meijer expressed the intention to continue the collaboration at the beginning of December, but then it remained silent for months. The Nijmegen club made Meijer an offer and the former midfielder then came up with a counter-proposal.

The 40-year-old Meijer is in his second season as an independent head coach of NEC. The former De Graafschap player formed a trainer trio with François Gesthuizen and Adrie Bogers in De Goffert in the 2019/2020 season.

Meijer promoted last season with NEC via the play-offs to the Eredivisie. The club has been exempt from relegation concerns this season. NEC is in tenth place after 27 rounds and still has the prospect of qualifying for the play-offs for European football. A place in the top eight is sufficient for that.

NEC is waiting for a crucial game on Sunday to visit number nine SC Cambuur. After the winter break, the club only won once in a competition, against sc Heerenveen (0-1), and has already gone five games in a row without a win.
