In 2023, Roger Waters fired his son Harry Waters from his touring band. Now the elder Waters is trying to undo the damage – by helping him find the frontman for his new Pink Floyd tribute band.
Waters wrote that Harry has “put together a great band and show,” called Legacy, which is scheduled to tour in 2027. Legacy will pay homage to Pink Floyd’s “golden era” and songs from Waters’ solo career. “Harry’s band is missing one thing,” he said. “The voice I had when I was young.”
He continued: “Back then I could sing anything – from the gentle urgency of ‘Hello, is there anyone in there?’ from “Comfortably Numb” to the shrill scream ‘You know how I need you/To beat to a pulp on a Saturday night’ from “Don’t Leave Me Now”. Can you do that? Are you that missing voice? If yes, this is your chance. This is an open invitation to audition for Harry’s band. I’m serious.”
Harry is looking for the father sound
On his own Instagram, Harry wrote: “We’re looking for a singer who can sound like Dad did when he was young. Is that you?”
In November 2023, Harry spoke to ROLLING STONE about his 14-year stint in his father’s band, where he played organ and keyboard. “It was pretty bleak,” he told us. “I think he just wanted fresh blood, something new, something fresh. I’m not sure of his exact motivations, but all but two people [Keyboarder Jon Carin und Gitarrist Dave Kilminster] were fired. But the others who were let go were not his son – so for me it was doubly painful.”
After his departure, Harry played with Les Claypool and Sean Lennon, then performed with Pink Floyd cover band Brit Floyd. He is currently accepting applications for the Legacy gig on his website – the deadline is April 30th.
